Android Homme: Interview

Android Homme’s success has been built off of vision, preparation and execution. Following those steps it’s easy to understand why their brand has been able to explode in such a short amount of time. While the brand is relatively new co-founders Javier Laval, Matty G and Sneaker Steve Pitino are industry veterans whose combined years of experience with some of the fashion industries top brands gave them the insight they needed to pull off their dream. “Initially I didn’t dive right into the fashion business or into design” says Javier, “I was doing marketing for Nike and Apple. Having my own marketing company allowed me to go into corporate America and see how they do it.”

Founded in 2008, the Android Homme team spotted a distinct need in the market for an affordable but quality shoe.  After selling two-dozen pairs in their first week at Atrium (a popular NYC clothing store) the AH team knew they were on the right track. “We set a price points because we take pride in our manufacturing and our quality.  So what we did was come in and decide to meet in the middle of the $200 to $300 price point which we feel there is a big market for”.

Consistency is key to growth in fashion and since its inception Javier has followed an ethos of the future and a focus on lifestyle. While many brands look back to see what worked before, AH is only concerned with what is to come, “Our brand is really not about exclusivity its about inclusivity. Its not really about shoes and clothes its about the lifestyle and the mind set that creates the lifestyle, that’s what’s Android Homme is all about.”

Having recently opened their show room in downtown Los Angeles with fellow designer B. Scott, the door is wide open for AH to further their legacy as a staple in the game.

KKK: Kilo Kish x Smash Simmons (Interview)

Anybody who comes across the letters KKK automatically thinks first of the white supremacy and decades of deep seeded racism. For Kilo Kish, Smash Simmons and Mels Mcloud, KKK has adopted an entirely different meaning that can change weekly. “At least from what it kind of stands for,” proclaims Smash Simmons. “It’s Kool Kat’s Klub on the first tip but there’s many more acronyms to it. As we drop more and more projects we’ll freak the acronyms.” “Like the group is really meant to be fun,” Kish chimes in. “And not giving a fuck more so than anything else.”

Still in college and looking for a place to live in New York, a friend of Kish’s hooked her up with her present manager, J Scott (imnotatoy.com) and current band mate Smash Simmons. With no initial plans in music Kish feels the band and her music came about naturally. “Originally I just wanted to copy cat and do mixtapes but eventually it kinda led to me making my own music.”

With a unique sound and a melodic voice Kish continues to carve out a lane for herself while trying to embrace and understand the lanes people are tying to create for her. “I don’t really think I ever got to that place where I was like this is my sound,” she explains. “I feel like people just kind of defined it for me, but I just do what I know how to do.”

Hailing from Atlanta and having close ties to long time friend J Scott, Smash was able to move up to New York and follow his ambitions. “I’ve known J Scott since like 4th, 5th grade since like 10 years old,” remembers Simmons. “When he moved up here he said ‘C’mon move up here.’ My timing would always be off. [Eventually] Things started aligning for me, money was right for me, I made the move and now we grinding.”

With Smash, Kilo and Mel the trio is young but the talent is limitless. With features on Childish Gambino’s “Royalty Project” as well as upcoming Brooklyn MCs Flatbush Zombies “D.R.U.G.S.” project, Kilo has quietly and unexpectedly set herself apart from anything we’ve previously heard leaving the door wide open for her and KKK’s next move. With a resume that reads visual artist, designer, and recording artist it seems only right that we expect to see Kish on the scene in more ways then one for years to come.

@IamSiya Interview: Blowhiphoptv —

Siya is an artist with a lane all her own. Born in Los Angeles but raised in Brooklyn, Siya attributes her early days growing up in BK to creating the person she is today. Struggling early on with her identity and people wanting to change her, she used music as a tool to express herself and evolve in the industry. Although Siya has been an artists since the age of 12, it wasn’t until she threw caution to the wind and moved to Atlanta. It was in Georgia where she found not only her voice and acceptance but also a manager who could see her vision and potential. Recently named as one of Complex’s 10 New York rappers to watch for, Siya has laid the ground work to be in the industry for a long time!

A$VP FERG Interview —

Aspiring to evoke that feel good emotion from listeners across generations, ASAP Ferg’s approach to a song is definitive in its own right. “I wanna bring the love back to music,” Ferg states, when describing his artistic vision. For many who were first introduced to him by the “Kissin Pink” track off of LiveLoveAsap, it is easy to identify Fergenstein’s flow with the sentiment received from old school soul music, the genre which he attributes to the be the primary source of his inspiration.

Having always been a child of the old school, ASAP Ferg found himself immersed in the moneymaking Manhattan culture since he was a shorty. As a seed, Ferg witnessed his father build his own success in the t-shirt printing business, having designed the vintage logos for Bad Boy and Heavy D. As his music continues to move forward, Ferg seeks to carry on his father’s legacy by re-establishing the clothing company, adding his own touch of futuristic ASAP swag to the D Ferg brand.

Within a year of dropping the video to “Get High,” ASAP has since broken ground quickly going from a gang of creative New York misfits to viral trendsetters. With this increased buzz, and a notoriety that is long overdue, Ferg has recently distinguished himself with A Hundred Million Roses, his own proclamation of trill, announcing just exactly who he is, and why the world needs to get familiar afuckinsap. Be on the lookout for upcoming work from ASAP Ferg, and be sure to stay tuned for the ASAP Mob compilation album, set to be released this February.
